ghosttropics I was lucky enough to be roommates with Eva in Montreal many years ago just as she was starting up this project. It is absolutely magical to hear just how far her songwriting has come since those early days when I could hear her just in the other room working out her now undeniably singular sound. I was starting to believe I had left behind my folk music days behind, but then I hear this album from an old friend and suddenly I want to pull out my acoustic guitar and a loop pedal and get creating

about

It is with great excitement that I share with you Turning Wheel, a five song ode to the turning of Spring. I imagine these songs finding you in a field on the first hot day after winter, enjoying a picnic with laughter and friends (and perhaps a bit of wine).

I wrote and recorded Turning Wheel in April 2020, watching quarantine unfold as spring brought to life the frozen countryside. It has been a long year between the end of last winter and the one we are emerging from. Many of us have been to the darkest places we have known within it. This work channels the spring's unyielding power, a medicine for the challenges of these changing times.

“Toward The Light” is a reference to the first day of spring, marked by the Vernal Equinox: the moment when the sun is above the Equator and day and night are of equal length across the world. Beyond this tipping point, we are carried into gradually longer and sunnier days– until the next tipping point, as the wheel ever turns.

With love,
Eva
